Sources Should Say: Ray Allen trades that make sense

This is the second of a three-part Boston-centered “Sources Should Say” feature I co-wrote for Not Your Fathers Water Cooler.

Ignore the public relations damage control- Danny Ainge meant what he said.

Despite his (and Doc Rivers’) attempt to quiet the outside noise, this team remains broken. The Celtics are the third-worst rebounding team in the league and the fifth-lowest scoring team in the league. Not exactly cosmetic issues we’re talking about.

The question is what approach should Ainge take? He could flip Pierce for an expiring contract and draft picks, let Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett walk, and basically bottom out and rebuild through the draft, knowing that he has Rajon Rondo locked in for four more years.

But bottoming-out is never the most attractive option when it comes to selling tickets, especially not for a team a year removed from the conference semi-finals. If a trade does happen in the next week or so, you have to imagine Ainge will at least attempt to salvage what’s left of this season.
