Drive: Overrated and Underdeveloped

A film review I wrote for Not Your Father’s Water Cooler on Nicolas Winding Refn’s popular 2011 film, Drive.

With highly-anticipated films like “Drive,” your perception tends to be largely based on how early you’re able to see it.

If you’re able to beat your friends to it and somehow manage to avoid most of the mainstream press and roughly 9,872 trailers worth of hype, you’re far more likely to walk away from a film feeling pleasantly surprised.

But wait too long and even your elderly aunt, who caught the senior-discounted matinee showing, is telling you, “you have to see it,” and at that point, it’s difficult for even the best films to fill that craterous crevice of expectation.
