Stanford University + Reddit.com = Future of Higher Education?

A feature I wrote for Not Your Father’s Water Cooler on the impact of Stanford’s artificial intelligence program. 

Unless you’re a regular reader of publications like “Scientific American” or are as passionate about subjects like artificial intelligence as my father is, you probably aren’t aware of the ground-breaking new program starting next month.

Stanford will be opening its doors wider than it ever has before, to literally anyone who wants to peak their head into the room.

Earlier this year, the school announced that its course, “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence,” will be open to anyone in the world.

The class starts in October and runs until December. By last month, more than 70,000 people had enrolled.

And no, this is not simply ItunesU, which basically allowed you to sit in class as an outsider.

Stanford’s program actually allows you to participate (for free) and enroll in the class. The class offers two tracks: a basic one, which only mandates occasional quizzes, and an advanced track that aspires to be of Stanford difficulty, meaning homework assignments and exams.
